Designing Your Future - 11
This course prepares students to make successful transitions to postsecondary destinations as they investigate specific postsecondary options based on their skills, interests, and personal characteristics. Students will explore the realities and opportunities of the workplace and examine factors that affect success, while refining their job-search and employability skills. Students will develop their portfolios with a focus on their targeted destination and develop an action plan for future success.

Unit 1: Who Am I? (23 hours)
This unit will take you an a journey of self discovery to learn more about yourself and the skills you possess. Using a state of the art electronic tool called myBlueprint, you will be guided through the journey creating a record of your learning in on online portfolio.
Unit 2: Who Do I Want to Become (25 hours)
This unit continues your journey of self discovery focusing on the personal management, interpersonal and teamwork skills that contribute to success in all areas of your life: postsecondary education and training, the world of work, personal relationships, and in the community.
Unit 3: What are My Opportunities (28 hours)
This unit provides opportunities you to explore print, electronic and human resources effectively to conduct research into various workplace and learning opportunities. You will identify and explain the impact of economic and societal trends, and make predictions about future developments. You will also identify fields of work in geographic and employment-related contexts and describe and assess opportunities for work. Finally you will explore businesses and organizations of many types, along with the effects of government legislation.
Unit 4: What is My Plan for Acheiving My Goals (22 hours)
In this unit, you will come to the end of your journey of exploration where you will reflect on the transitions and changes that you may face in the future. You will gain practical experience in job searching, interview skills as well as resume and cover letter development. Finally you will design an action plan and back-up plan, outlining how you will accomplish your work, education/training, leisure and community involvement goals.
